"Mental Health Awareness Month: How Moms Can Check In With Themselves"
Paige Meza · Content and Social Media Manager
As moms, we spend so much time caring for our families that we often forget to check in with ourselves. Between the endless to-do lists, the constant needs of our kids, and the pressure to be the perfect parent, it's no wonder so many of us feel depleted.
The scale of it is hard to ignore. In The Motherhood Index 2026, 93% of mothers reported burnout, and 58% said they feel it often or almost always.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, making it the perfect time to pause and prioritize your well-being.
You can't pour from an empty cup. When you neglect your mental health, it affects every aspect of your life, from your ability to show up for your family to your overall happiness and satisfaction. So where do you start?
Here are some simple, low-lift ways to check in with yourself during this busy season.
Set boundaries
Whether it's carving out sacred "me time" each day, learning to say no to obligations that don't serve you, or creating tech-free zones in your home, setting boundaries is key to preserving your mental energy.
Practice self care
This looks different for everyone. Maybe it's a warm bath, a solo coffee run, or 15 minutes of journaling. The important thing is to find activities that help you recharge and reconnect with yourself.
Lean on your support system
Open up to trusted friends or family members about how you're really doing. Or consider joining a local or online moms' group to share experiences and gain new perspectives.
Seek professional help if you need it
Remember, you don't have to struggle alone. If you're experiencing persistent anxiety, depression, or burnout, reach out to a mental health professional.
The most important thing is to start small. Even five to 10 minutes of intentional self-care each day can make a difference in how you feel. When we are mentally healthy and thriving, everyone benefits. This Mental Health Awareness Month, let's commit to checking in with ourselves so we can show up as our best selves for the ones we love most.
